Q. What is the Future of Learning?
A. The Future of Learning is the Park City School District's process for thinking about the ways students will learn in the future and how its program and facilities will support that learning.

Q. What exactly is an master education plan?
A. A master plan serves as a blueprint to guide educational program development, facility investments and ultimately student success. The team members leading the process will collect a wide range of data, from the existing facilities, teaching tools/methods, and the community to ensure that innovative, attractive and successful education programs are well-supported by capital expenditures. Vigorous visioning will lead to the development of the master plan.

Q. Over the last few years, I've heard about or participated in other school district master plan processes. Why are we doing this again?
A. The previous planning processes were designed to address specific building needs. This master planning process is focused on community values as they relate to education and teaching methodology. Evaluating buildings and their ability to implement the vision is secondary to the community values and vision discussion.

Q. How is this process different from prior planning activities?
A. This plan focuses on how students today best learn, and how the environment and teaching methods can best support that. Only then, can we evaluate school buildings and their ability to support the preferred approaches.

Pre-Planning

The Board of Education met December 5, 2017, with Nick Salmon, founder and president of Collaborative Learning Network, who has been retained as a consultant to assist the board in developing a plan for its master planning process. He is identifying the data needed for the planning process including enrollment, school sites, facilities, and funding; creating a timeline; assessing the feasibility of completing a master plan for bond election scenarios; identifying key participants in the planning effort; and identifying community engagement tools.

Salmon has toured all PCSD schools and properties to review current space uses and to meet with school leaders to establish key issues at each site. He also met with the Facility Committee to review the planning process and to identify community partners for the planning process and school success. He presented his findings to the board December 19, 2017.
